Wikipedia describes social film as “a type of interactive film that is presented through the lens of social media.” We like to think of it as “A film that pulls you in to be a part of it through online social interaction, where your actions influence immediate feedback from film participants, as well as influencing topics of future films to be made.”

Tragically, many USA city governments have worked to dispel the Occupy assemblies. OccupyMovie is a continuance of the learning experience received by attending an Occupy location. We’re looking to extend the communication platform of Occupiers to world citizens across the globe. We recognize that mass media has done a very poor of accurately representing the movement. To balance this, we felt it was necessary to have a place where questions can be asked to real Occupiers one-on-one. The opinions of individuals within the Occupy movement are wide and varied, yet nearly all are anchored to common concerns for which they are demonstrating. The solidarity within this diversity is the magic of the Occupy Movement. As you visit OccupyMovie and watch the first film, you will meet a growing list of real Occupiers that are available directly to you to learn, question, and share with. As you interact with each speaker you also set the foundation for the subject of future films, which will include both current and new Occupy speakers!

We strongly invite OccupyMovie participation from educational facilities, such as high schools and universities around the globe. We’ll be working with some facilitators to set up potential coursework to be included for download. This may include exclusive teleconferences or coursework evaluations by OccupyMovie speakers as well. OccupyMovie is a great tool for students to study recent events and to participate first-hand with Occupy participants from the safety of a classroom.
